Ever watch some of the TV shows you used to like when you were younger and understand things in them you didn’t understand when you first watched them? I find that kinda disturbing at times.. hehe.. How naive I was back then…

Mark asked:
Attendance at Casino Bingo halls has been declining since the mid-90’s across the gaming industry. Why are people (especially baby-boomers) not venturing out to win $100s (or in many cases, $1000s) playing Bingo?

Fire asked: Dependency ratios, for those who don’t know, simply represent the number of working people in a society versus the number of people that live off the system.
From statistical observation, all economic up-turns have been predictably linked to a lower elderly population, and a larger working population. In both America and China, we currently are on the edge of a change: large working populations are about to go into retirement and also need a great deal more medical care.
Given the fact that the Baby Boomer generation is about to hit retirement in a huge wave, and their medical needs will probably exceed our current capacity to deal with them properly, will their new “dependency” status cause a recession?
I don’t think the smaller working population can keep up with the same GDP, as birth rates have gone down. Nor do i think we’ve prepared very well for this inevitable economic down-turn.
What do you think?
Basically, my question is this: Is a worldwide recession inevitable, or will other regions of the world pick of the slack for a while?

Shortstuff13 asked: I can recall doing so in my first few years of school. We all brought a bag lunch with us to school & the teacher would spread out some blankets for us to sit on. She’d treat us to a soft drink or milk. We’d eat our lunch, then our teacher would read to us, or we’d talk about nature, etc. I loved getting outside where it was warm & sunny & we could talk in our “outside” voices.
Those were the days indeed. As I reflect back through my earlier school days, I have such great memories of doing such simple things, yet they were fun things. I only wish my grandchildren could experience such enjoyment. They all take field trips, but it costs the parents money. Our fun time was free.
ggraves1…Oh, those simple things in life huh? It sounds as though your mom was great at packing your lunches, to have caused you such excitement when opening up your lunchbags. I can also recall carrying my first lunchbox with matching thermos. A few of my thermoses got broken on the way home from school. Once I dropped my lunchbox, accidently, & once, I smacked a boy with my lunchbox for teasing me, & dented the lunchbox, & you guessed it, I broke yet another thermos.
corncob….What wonderful memories for your daughter & you as you look back. It sounds as though it was fun filled day.

vinny….I’m sorry you never got to have outdoor class lunches under a big shade tree but I can see where you’re coming from as to why you didn’t get to experience those fun times. I do remember having the old wooden desks with the hole in the top of the desk to hold the ink bottle. I will never forget my mom telling me about the day she went to grade school & had one of her pigtails dipped into the bottle of ink that was in the ink well behind her. She didn’t know the boy sitting behind her had done it, until the other kids asked her what was all over her dress in the back. She came from a poor family of ten kids, & wore hand me down clothes. The boy had to pay for her dress when all was said & done. That kid grew up to be a mortician in the city where I grew up & whenever my mom & dad went to that man’s funeral home for a funeral, they always spoke of the ink well episode.
Diamond….Gee, your teacher should have brought along some extra needles that day.
bren…What a great teacher you were to do that for your class. It was something different for your students & I’m sure each one really enjoyed it & now have fond memories of you & those fun times.
rhumba girl….Where did all the trees go? Were they cut down to put up a gas station or a parking lot? Sad isn’t it?
whograss records….Great memories for you too huh? Glad to hear it. Then things do change indeed.
Ellen…Oh, such sweet memories for you as well. Cookies from the teacher were a great treat. They went well with that cold milk didn’t they? Teachers cared so much about their students & were able to do lots of things that the teachers today, can’t. Many teachers care about their students but their classrooms are full & the one on one attention, isn’t always possible, especially the older the students get. I’m glad I could bring back some great memories for you today.

back then and they are the same people today that are scared to death that their own teenager is going to have *** and smoke weed. Not saying that it is good for a teen to have *** and smoke weed, I am just saying that it is ironic and a little humorous.
Well, yes, I do worry about my children. It’s just that the majority of the things that you see and hear about is the hippies. And I am only 26, so it’s natural for me to have a preconcieved idea about the baby boomers.

Emily asked:
-They relentlessly rebelled against the war their parents created in Vietnam, but repeated their parents mistake 35 years later.
-They preached non-conformity, but presided over an era in which 5 companies took over all of the media.
-They were educated by their parents but failed to educate their own children.
-The most powerful from their generation include the discredited Bill Clinton, the spiteful, backward-looking Newt Gingrich, the weak and ineffective John Kerry and Al Gore, and the disaster that has been George W. Bush and Karl Rove.
-They did everything they protested against as 20 year olds.
-They trivalized divorce, sex, violence, lawsuits, and poverty with their needless descents into all of these aspects of life- OJ, the often-marrying British Royals, welefare mothers, trigger-happy gun owners, ect.
-They took harmless things like Marijuana, and overused them until they became a detriment to society, ruining the potential for other generations to test their own boundaries.
- They continued the mad descent into suburban sprawl and excess consumerism.
- Over the next 25 years, they are going to slide into old age ridiclously- the image of the wise old sage will die away.
and by Baby Boom I mean the older half of the generation, those who are currently between 50 and 65. Those who are between 40 and 50(Obama’s generation) may also be described as “baby boomers” but they are different because they didn’t come of age until after the Rock Era/Vietnam/Watergate, and because their children are mostly Gen-Y, rather than Gen-X.
It’s not just about hippies. It’s the whole lack of substance- remember Bill and Hillary were hippies when that was fashionable, then yuppies, then they lead the march of political correctness in the 90s, then they supported the Iraq War, then they opposed it when that became popular to do. Bush was an alcoholic and partier who switched to born-again Christian when they entered his social circle. Oprah was a wild-child, pregnant at 13, who became Hollywood godmother of morality when that posistion became open to her.
-As for voting for Obama, I voted for Obama not because I agree with everything he supports, but because he has always been commited to one thing. He never lied about his agenda, unlike Mccain, who embodies the hypocracy I have described. If a Republican comes along in 2012 who transcends this nonsense, I may vote for them.
